Larsen & Toubro Ltd has emerged as one of the major EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) turnkey solutions provider for solar power generation. Besides, the company is looking at offering deployment solutions of large rooftop systems for third parties.
Offcials of the company, speaking on the sidelines off Solarcon India 2011, said L&T has contracted more than 200 MW of grid connected EPC projects both under the National Solar Mission and also those that come under the State-promoted schemes of the governments of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The company’s capabilities in construction and as an EPC contractor for several areas, including power sector, have come in handy. This has helped the company take up projects in the solar power generation business. The company adds value by system integration, project management and in-house manufacturing capability of structures for the EPC business.
L&T has set up a research and development centre in Chennai, which now serves as a test bed to validate some of the competing technologies and solutions.
